Debt grounds Hungary’s Malev

www.euronews.net Hungary’s debt ridden state owned airline Malev has ceased operating after running out of money. Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban said the decision to ground the country’s flag-carrier was made after aircraft were not allowed to take off from Tel Aviv and Ireland because of unpaid debts. Last month the European Union said the carrier has to pay back 130 million euros of state aid it had received.

Greece close to debt swap deal

www.euronews.net Greece says it has all but concluded a crucial debt relief deal with its private investors. The agreement would see those investors swap their Greek government bonds for new ones of a lower value, with a longer repayment period at lower interest rates. Finance Minister Evangelos Venizelos said now they focus on convincing the EU and the IMF they can deliver the promised spending cuts and reforms
